Contemporary Masters Series: Stanley Lewis- Painting The Experience of Seeing: A Retrospective

APRIL 13, 2007
Stanley Lewis is one of the strongest landscape painters living and working today. This exhibition will present a range of his landscape works created in oil on canvas and masonite, acrylic on canvas, and pencil, tempera, and pen-and-ink on paper, some as large as eight feet, done over the last forty years of his life. Lewis admits to “being excited by trees…in all their many splendid forms – trees in the full-dress of summer or the nakedness of winter, in a particular time of day, light, and season.” He works and re-works his pieces over time, cutting and re-gluing pieces of his paintings, creating depth and angles that give an interesting aspect to his work. It is Lewis’s uncompromising approach (as he paints in the tradition of the great artists), the sense of awe and excitement before nature that he expresses in his work, and his desire to get at exactly what makes each setting unique, that draws us into his pictures and makes us want to look further. Images 2007: A Bohemian Soirée

APRIL 21, 2007
"Do you dream of adventure in far-away, exotic places but dislike long lines at the airport and traveling like sardines in a can? Delay no longer! Put your suitcase in the attic but have your adventure anyway. Join in the fun at IMAGES 2007: A BOHEMIAN SOIREE, to be held on Saturday, April 21, 2007 from 7:00 to 11.30 PM at Michaelian & Kohlberg, a most exotic but not far-away place. IMAGES: A BOHEMIAN SOIREE is the 26th annual fundraiser to benefit the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey's education and outreach programs. The event draws its inspiration from Michaelian & Kohlberg’s unique environment, which features a backdrop of decorative hand-made carpets and home accessories, artfully arranged in a large open space, and a stunning Indian sandstone garden. The evening adventures will include libations, lively dancing, a moveable feast of gourmet fare, and silent and live auctions. Come, dress in Bohemian chic, have fun and support the Art Center's main fundraising event. For reservations, call 908-273-9121. For more information about the event or sponsorship opportunities, please contact Patty Tsai, at 908-273-9121 x 27 or ptsai@artcenternj.org.
